OPA381: OPA381 swing to ground

Part Number: OPA381
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM7705

Support Path: /Product/Help with Device Selection/

Sometimes ago I used OPA381 as Transimpedance Ampli for OSRAM PD BPW34. I like an option of OPA381 "swing to ground" by ext. resistor.

Have TI another OAs with this capability? May be a competitors devices.

  • Hi Vladimir,

This can be done with most CMOS op amps. Here is a TI Precision Design that discusses the modification and how it works: http://www.ti.com/tool/TIPD145
Don't forget that your input must also be able to accommodate 0V. In most instances, I would say you are better off using a dual supply configuration, but if you're set on the op amp you've chosen and it can't operate off that large of a supply, this can be useful.
Another thing you can do is use a negative bias generator, such as the LM7705. This device takes in 3-5.25V and outputs -0.232V, allowing the op amp to swing to ground.
