OPA830: Supported Input/output voltage ranges and single supply voltage clarification

Part Number: OPA830

Hello,

I'm planning to use the OPA830 to drive a clock signal over 50 Ohm coax. The datasheet shows data on VS = +/-5V, 5V and 3V but not for 10V. It does however state that it supports up to a single ended value of 11V.

1.  Can a 6 to 11V supply be used and will it allow me to have an output range of 0 to Vs? (not exactly Vs but I assume within a few hundred millivolts)

2. I need to generate a level from 0 to 6V. Is this possible on the output?

3. Is the maximum input 3.2V? I have an option for the input to be 3.3V, I'd like to keep the gain down in order to have greater bandwidth.

Note, the web bench tool indicates that the max single supply is 5.5V which conflicts with the datasheet.

thanks,

Adam

  • Hi Adam,

The VS= +/-5 values are the same as a VS=10V single supply. Just add a +5V offset to dual supply ranges.

    1. At Vs=10V, the output range will be 140mV to 9.86V, and at Vs=5V the output range will be 90mV to 4.91V. The ranges for 11V and 6V will need similar foot room and headroom respectively.

    2. While it is possible on a dual supply, the minimum voltage you will get with a single supply with Vs=10V is 140mV with this amplifier.

    3. The maximum common mode voltage for Vs=10V single supply is 3.2+5V=8.2V.

    Best regards,

    Sean
