LM8261: Inrush current

Part Number: LM8261

Hello,

Our customer use the LM8261.

The condition of the customer using as follows.

Voltage follower circuit

V+=12V , VIN=VOUT=10V

Load: 60uF capaitor

Current limit resistor: 5 ohm

When the power up and power down, it occur inrush current.

It is nearly short circuit condition.

It is a less than 1.5msec and there's no heat up.

Is there any problem?

Best Regards,

  • Naoki-san,

It is always best avoid any stress, however LM8261 has self protections against shorts and surges. You are within the limits of note 2 and 3 in the data sheet section 6.1 AMR table which I believe you are familiar.

The two effects to consider are temperature and electromigration. The short surge time will eliminate temperature concern. Avoiding high device temperature will eliminate electromigration concern. I do not expect any problems.
  • Hello Ron,

    Thank you for your reply.
I'll feedback the customer to check the device temperature again.

    Thanks,
    Naoki Aoyama
