TLV2374: TLV2374 use as comparator

Part Number: TLV2374

Is it possible to use the TLV2374 as a comparator?  Is there any in-built protection in the device which would prevent its usage as a comparator?  Thanks.

  • Hi Jatan,

The TLV2374 is primarily a CMOS design from the input stage to the output stage. There are no clamps in the input stage to limit the differential input voltage. Additionally, it is described as having rail-to-rail both inputs and output. The input uses both P-channel and N-channel differential pairs to accomplish the rail-to-rail input, and thus the offset throughout the entire input range might vary a little in the input crossover region. That likely isn't a big deal. Note that the output is a push-pull output stage and that precludes it from being used in wired-or output configurations like open-collector/open-drain comparators.

Overall, the TLV2374 should serve nicely as a comparator.
