LM324A: LM324A Internal clamping diode rating

Hi Support Team,

My customer wants to know what is the negative voltage clamping rating for input clamping diode? Is it -0.3V as datasheet specified?

In their application the input voltage would go lower than -0.3V for around 5.2ms, this is going to cause any issue?

Hi Wei-Hao,

Our recommendation is to always limit the current into the input pin to less than 10mA. You can achieve this by putting a resistor on the input pin. When the input voltage is negative as in your case, you are causing a diode from the input pin to ground to conduct and excessive current/time can damage the device.

If you expect the device to go through this condition frequently, then keep the current to less than 1mA.
