INA2180: AC side current sensing

Part Number: INA2180
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA240

Hi team,

My customer is looking for a current sensing to detect an AC motor (220VAC side). Current is 0A - 2A.

If we want to do with shunt based, any recommendation? If we want to do it with magnatic sensing, any recommendation? Thanks.

Regards,

Patrick

  • Hello Patrick,

Thanks for reaching out on the forum.  The device we typically recommend for motor applications is the INA240.  This is a shunt based current sensing solution that can be used in high-side, low-side, and in-line sensing.  As for magnetic sensing, we have some Hall sensors you could use.  Those can be found here.  As long as your motor control signals are under 20kHz, those should work for you.
