hi,

we are using an OPA2544 dual amplifier as Bridge Driver Circuit is shown in figure 4 in datasheet document. The power supply is ±35 V and power consumption is less than ratting. we use a good heat sink and ESD safety is taken into account, too. In this condition, one on the internal op-amps is  damaged sometimes. why is that?

due to value of the absolute maximum voltage (±35), is the applied voltage (±35) high? what supply voltage should we use?

    I would use a somewhat lower supply voltage. What is your load? What is the maximum output voltage you must produce across the load?

    Or is it an inductive load? Then you might need to protect the outputs from inductive kick backs as shown in figure 3 of datasheet.

    Hi Sama,

    A +/-35 V supply is the maximum supply voltage the OPA2544 can withstand. As long as the voltage across the OPA2544 never exceeds that maximum rating, the device should be okay. However, it is important to make sure that under no circumstances such a start-up that the voltage exceeds the +/-35 V maximum. If the supply voltage can be lowered to something a bit less that moves the OPA2544 supplies away from the absolute maximum. That also lowers the power dissipation and heat generation which is always desirable.

    Since only one of the op amps in the dual is being damaged, that may not be related to a power supply condition. It would be helpful if we could see a schematic of your OPA2544 circuit that includes details about the input signal, and the output load. I wouldn't expect any issues with a purely resistive load, but a complex load such as a motor can sometimes develop a back EMF which can damage an op amp output stage. If that is the case, then it is best to add the protection circuitry shown in datasheet Fig.3, as Kai suggested.
