What is the thermal resistance from junction to case (Theta JC) for the LM8272 ?

Hi George,

While we don't specify Theta JC in the datasheet, we do specify Theta JA (junction-to-ambient thermal resistance) in Section 6.4. Theta JA should be adequate for calculating change in temperature due to power dissipation. May I ask why you are looking for Theta JC specifically?

Because we are conductively cooling it through the board into a heatsink.
The Theta JA is not sufficient to predict the junction temperature based on the local board temperature.

Hi George,

Here's the Theta JC value, as well as the other thermal resistances and thermal characterization parameters should you need them. All of the values are in units of degrees C/W.

LM8272MM/NOPB

Result- Theta JA-High K (standard datasheet value) 161.5

Result-Theta JC, top (standard datasheet value) 53.6

Result-Theta JB (standard datasheet value) 82.7

Result- Psi JT (standard datasheet value) 4.5

Result- Psi JB (standard datasheet value) 81.3
