SN10502: Maximum Voltage On Output?

Part Number: SN10502

Hello,

I am evaluating the SN10502 for an application where short circuit and transient threats must be considered on the output pin. Since the SN10502 has no internal protection features, I have added them in the form of a series resistor, TVS diodes, and shottky diodes clamping the output to the voltage rails. To evaluate the sufficiency of my protection scheme, I would like to know the absolute maximum voltage which can be tolerated on the output pin. I did not see this information in the datasheet. Is it known?

Thanks and Best Regards!

  • Hello,

Today is a TI holiday. Due to the holidays our responses may be delayed. I do not have any information on hand but an expert should be able to help you before the end of next week.

    Thanks!

  • Hi,

So I looked at the datasheet for the device. It mentions an output current of 150 mA in the abs max section of the datasheet. This is the value that will limit your output voltage. If there is more than this amount of current then this will start to damage the device. There are a few ways to limit this current, the easiest of which is to add a resistor whose value depends on the voltage you are applying to the output pin.

The datasheet also mentions some output characteristics in the electrical characteristics section which mention how much current the device can sink and source and the output impedance at 1MHz. This lets you calculate how much current your device will sink and source for the voltage you are applying to the output. If the current is greater than 150 mA you should consider adding a resistor to the output.

    Thanks!
