[FAQ] LMV358: What is the best cross reference replacements for the LMV321, LMV358, LMV324 op amp devices?

Part Number: LMV358
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMV321, , LMV324, , LMV324A, LMV321A, TLV9002, TLV9004, TLV9001, LM2902, LM2904, LM2904-Q1, LM358B, LM358LV, LM358, LM2904B, LM2904LV, LM2902LV, LM2904B-Q1, OPA2990, TLV9064, TLV9062, TLV9061

Hi,

Are there any good (or better) replacement op amps for the LMV3xx devices (i.e. LMV321, LMV358, LMV324)?

I'm looking for a device that can stay within my budget and has extra features like EMI/RFI filters on the inputs, better voltage offset, and lower power .

  • Hello David,

    Yes, there are some excellent drop-in replacement devices for the LMV3XX family of devices!  Please consider the LMV358A, LMV324A, LMV321A as replacements.  These new devices include everything you mentioned and have a wider supply voltage, faster slew rate, lower noise, and are more budget-friendly.

    Why Users Should Consider Upgrading Their LMV324, LMV358, and LMV321 Devices

  • Hi Davis,

    TI has tons of better OPAmps. Specify the desired offset voltage and supply current. Also specify the desired unity gain bandwidth. And, how many amplifiers shall the OPAmp contain?

    Kai
  • Hello Kai,

    Thanks for pointing out that we have many better op amps.  :)

    However, the idea here is finding a family of devices with comparable performance for the cost of the LMV3XX devices.  The new 'A' versions have better performance and are more budget-friendly than the 'non-A' versions.  If the 'A' versions are not sufficient replacements for the application(s), we can certainly provide additional guidance on selecting different devices based on more detailed criteria like what you mentioned above.

  • Hi Peter,

    I think the TLV9001, TLV9002, TLV9004 is an optimal alternative.

    Kai
  • Thanks Kai! Thanks Peter!

  • Hello Kai,

    Those are excellent alternatives as well!

    To your point, many of the classic amplifiers such as LM3XX, LMV3XX, LM2904, LM2902, LM2904-Q1, etc. can be replaced with newer 'A', 'B', and 'LV' devices. There are also new TLV prefix devices, too.
    Here is a general guideline for replacements:

    LMV358, LMV321, LMV324->LMV358A, LMV321A, LMV324A
    LM358, LM358A->LM358B (for high-voltage applications) or LM358LV (for low-voltage applications)
    LM2904->LM2904B (for high-voltage applications), LM2904LV (for low voltage applications)
    LM2902->LM2902LV (for low voltage applications)
    LM2904-Q1->LM2904B-Q1

    Devices such as the TLV9001, TLV9002, TLV9004, TLV9061, TLV9062, TLV9064, and the OPA2990 (high voltage) also provide great alternatives to the classic LM and LMV devices.
