INA193A-Q1: The clipping output at large input voltage

Hi team,

I have a question about the behavior at large input voltage.

We will use normally in the condition that Vsense is under (Vs - 0.2V) / Gain.

However, Vsense may exceed this value when the actuator starts up or shuts off.

Of course, it is designed to be within the maximum rated voltage range.

We expect the output voltage to continue to clip at Vs.

Since we are looking at the overcurrent in another mechanism, it is easy to ignore this if the output is clipped at Vs.

If the output is not fixed under this condition, that is, it becomes floating or becomes 0V in the middle, we can't ignore this situation.

I think that if there is an input that exceeds (Vs-0.2 V) / Gain, the output will always clip at Vs.

Is it correct?

    What is the maximum Vsense we can expect under which the output should maintain in clipped state? There is no concern, if it is under 2V.

    At higher values, the output can droop even though the device doesn’t suffer any damage up to ±18V.  

    If the input exceeds 2V, you might want to look into an alternative. I initially selected a few such devices for your convenience, you can find them here.

    Thank you for your support.

    I think that probably Vsense never exceeds 2V.

    However, it is necessary to experiment to actually not exceed 2V.

    In the case of other devices, will the output not drop even if Vsense exceeds 2V?

    Could you tell me what parameters should I look at the data sheet?

  • Hi Tomoaki Yoshida-san,

    The devices shared in the link will not have output droop. These are new designs and such behavior is better controlled. This behavior is not reflected by datasheet parameters.

    Normally large Vsense occurs with “open shunt”. In these situations however most applications don’t care if the output droops because there is a bigger problem.
