TL331-Q1: datasheet clarification

Part Number: TL331-Q1

Please help understand the datasheet:

When IN- (pin1) and IN+ (pin3) see same voltage, what would be the voltage @OUT (pin4)? I am expecting 0 or really low, please confirm (please consider VCC = 12V and VVC-/ GND = 0V).

And at this above mentioned condition, what would be the current intake at VCC pin, IN- pin and IN+ pin?

Thanks

Viktorija

  • Hello Viktorija,

It depends on the internal offset voltage - that would make the final decision. Offset voltage is modeled as a voltage source in series with the non-inverting input.

If the inputs are shorted together, theoretically it is an unknown condition since one input is neither higher or lower than the other. But in real devices the internal offset  voltage will tilt the result.

The offset for the TL331-Q1 is up to ±9mV (yes, it can be positive or negative), so there are equal chances for low output or a high output across devices.
