INA226: Can I use INA186 or INA193 according to the topology of TIDA-00313 INA226

Part Number: INA226
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00313, INA186, INA193,

Can I use INA186 or INA193 according to the topology of TIDA-00313 –48-V Telecom Current, Voltage, and Power Sense With Isolation Reference Design?

We don't need an I2C interface, the MCU has only an ADC interface.

  • Seasat,

This design is achieved through setting the ground of the device at -48V, so yes, this technique should be able to be applied to these devices. There's a few key differences though:

    - As the devices you are looking at are analog out, you should not need any of the passives regarding Vbus.

    - Note that the INA226 does not provide the isolation in this design, the ISOW so by moving to an analog output, you will need to determine another option if you still need this.

    - Take care with setting the reference. You will need to use the "GND_INA" and "Vs" nodes to do this for proper operation.

You may also want to check out TIDA-1608, which is an updated version of this design with our internal shunt devices, as it may provide additional clarity.
