OPA2197-Q1: Whether can I only use the internal TVS diode, not adding the external TVS diode?

Part Number: OPA2197-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA2197

Dear team,

In our old project we added external clamp diode as below first picture. Now in order to cost down, the customer wants to remove the external diodes, and only use our internal equivalent ESD diodes. Is this method  feasible? If so, the customer wants to know what is the internal diode's clamp current?

Thanks & Best Regards,

Sherry

  • Without any external protection circuitry, OPA2197 input current is a function of the input voltage above (or below) its rails: Iin=[(Vin-Vcc-0.6V)/100].  Since the maximum input current specified in the datasheet is +/-10mA (see below), this means that it will be safe to operate the part without any external protection for as long as the input voltage at TP4006 is NOT more than 1.6V beyond its rail.  For example, for +/-15V supplies, there is no need for any external protection as long and the input voltage at TP4006 is between +/-16.6V.
