Compiler/ALM2402-Q1: How to use ALM2402?

Part Number: ALM2402-Q1

Tool/software: TI C/C++ Compiler

Hello.

I'm developing power board that use ALM2402-Q1(Package : SON)

I know spec that output current capability is 400mA.

So i adopted it at my circuit.

But I'm worried that high temperature, watt, output capability.

Headroom supply volttage: +15V

Ouput Voltage : +12V

Output Current : +400mA

Will it work the way I want to design it?
What should I consider in the Datasheet?
Thermal Information?

  • The ALM2402-Q1 output swing to both rails is shown over temperature ONLY up to 350mA - see graphs below.  But extrapolating the sourcing current up to 400mA you may approximate that at 125 deg C junction temperature the output would swing within 250mV below positive rail (sourcing).  However, the graph on the right curves up and thus may NOT be able to sink 400mA at 125C  but it's within 0.65V above negative rail under 350mA load (sinking).

    In the graph below on the right you may see what happens at elevated temperature - the short-circuit current (sourcing) is about 600mA at 125C, however, on the left below (in red circle) the short-circuit current (sinking) is limited to about 360mA at 125C.  Additionally, you may notice that in order to sink 400mA the junction temperature would have to be below 100C.

    All in all, ALM2404-Q1 output will have no problem sourcing 400mA at 125C junction temperature under your 3V (15V-12V) headroom conditions but may run into problem if you expect it to sink 400mA above 100C junction temperature.
