Dear Team,

I need to design Pre-Amplifier for Capacitive Hydrophone Differential Sensor Following are my requirement.

input Range : 5μV‐ 10mV

Input Impedance (Differential) : 10Kohms

Frequency range : 4 Hz – 2 Mhz

I have two different part numbers from TI (INA166, OPA37). Do these amplifier fit into my requirements.

Kindly suggest if you have any alternate solution to resolve my issue.

Hi Tamara,

Thanks for your instant reply. Hydrophone sensor part is not within our scope its customer product.

And frequency range is also not fixed requirement, If you can suggest Pre-Amplifier that work within voltage range of 5uV to 10mV it will be helpful for me.

Can you please suggest INA166 is capable to amplify 5uV to 10mV signal with fixed voltage gain of 40dB.

Please suggest Amplifier which amplifies 5uV input differential voltage.

I need to confirm my design , Does INA166 supports my input range of operation.

Hi Rohith,

If your input voltage range is 5µV to 10mV, you would first need to find an amplifier which is very high precision. The INA166 has an input offset voltage of 250µV, this is 50 times your input signal so you may lose some accuracy. I would recommend finding a high-precision (preferably zero-drift) operational amplifier and configuring it as a diff-amp with high precision resistors. The OPA189 is our highest precision operational amplifier with a maximum input offset voltage of 3µV.

Can you provide some more clarification on the 4Hz to 2MHz frequency? Are you measuring a 2MHz AC sine wave? If so, then that means you would need a 2GHz amplifier in order to achieve a gain of 1000V/V.
