THS6212: VDSL line driver

Part Number: THS6212
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA2673, OPA2670, THS6222, THS6226, THS6214

Dear Sir:

I am searching for a suitable VDSL line driver.

TI THS6212/6214, OPA2673, OPA2670 seems all can support VDSL2.

Pls can you teach me where I can find more detail information?

My basic requirement is:

Sustaining chip/product

Single channel

Support AVD with better US0, 17a, 30a performance

Afford O/P power 14.5dBm

  • Kindly pls advise me the suitable one and its Evaluation Board and reference design information.

  • Hello Ervin,

The THS6212 is the most suitable part based off of your requirements. There is also the THS6222 which will be released soon, its datasheet is available though the part is in preview. You can find the EVM for the THS6212 here.

  • Dear Hasan:

    Thanks for your reply.

Per our previous inquiry for this, TI also introduced OPA2670, OPA2673.

Also, I'd like to emphasize, our major application is ADSL2/2+, VDSL2 17a/30a/35b on UTP telecom network.

Could you pls teach us where the difference among these three parts for my basic requirements?

Is there a comparison table that we can refer to make a correct judgement?

    B.R.

  • Hello Ervin,

For clarification, you will need the ability to work with 17a, 30a and 35b?

What is the max output power that you will need? and at what Peak-to-Average Ratio?

  • Hi, Hasan:

For clarification, you will need the ability to work with 17a, 30a and 35b? <== Yes

What is the max output power that you will need? <==Ptx: 14.5dBm  and at what Peak-to-Average Ratio? @ > 15dB

    Ervin

  • Hello Ervin,

Sorry about the delayed response. If my calculations are correct, you will need to provide a max output voltage of 13.35 Vpp assuming a 50-ohm load. Out of the THS6212, OPA2673 & OPA2670 only the THS6212 can handle this output requirement. You will also be able to meet your bandwidth requirements with this part since the large signal bandwidth is at 120 MHz.

  • Hello Hasan:

We focus on DSL application, surely it's for 100ohm UTP, including 17a/30a and up to 35b bandplan.

Pls can you teach me how TI classify the DSL and PLC applications for these line drivers?

What the major spec. I should pay attention to and differentiate?

Is there any application note or reference design I can find for this THS6212 applied on DSL 100ohm UTP?

    Thx

  • Hello Ervin,

You will notice the the THS6212 and the THS6214 are marketed differently (one is PLC while the other is DSL) although they are essentially the same part with a different number of channels. Both parts can be used in either application. Although we do not have app notes for what you are looking for, I would recommend using the application sections of the THS6214 & THS6226 datasheets as they are more geared towards your design. Note that while the THS6212 does have the bandwidth capability of driving 14.5 dBm up to 35MHz (for 35b profile), your distortion will probably increase to around 50-60 dBc at the speed (this is an estimate as the plots in the datasheet end at 30MHz).
