TLV3691: Power monitor circuit for enable the regulator using TLV3691 comparator

Part Number: TLV3691
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61090,

Hello sir,

We are plan to use TLV3691 comparator and TPS61090 boost regulator in one our project.

TPS61090 Regulator input voltage coming from Super Capacitor. Super capacitor charge the voltage between 0  Volts - 4.2 volts. We are using Super capacitor as a voltage souse.

Our requirement is to enable the TPS61090 Regulator if Super capacitor voltage reach to 4 Volts & disable the the regulator once the Super capacitor voltage below 2V.

Evey time TPS61090 Regulator should be enable once Super capacitor voltage reach to 4 Volts.

how to implement above concept by using  TLV3691 comparator?, or give me the better solution to implement this 2 to 4 Volts threshold point.

Regards

Lakshmanan V

  • Hello Lakshmanan,

    Apologies for the delay.

I assume the comparator will be powered off the supercap, and that you want the standby current as low as possible.

While the TLV3691 has a very low (<100nA) supply current, you still will need a stable voltage reference and input divider network. These will burn the majority of the standby current.

How much current are you allowing for standby? I assume you want the output to go high when the voltage is between 2 and 4V.
