INA240: Need support on FMEA for INA240

Part Number: INA240

Hi All,

We are doing failure mode analysis(FMEA) for INA240 using PSpice software.

We couldn't run the following conditions in PSpice.

1. Pin4 (GND) Open condition

2. Pin4 (GND) Short with Pin5 (Vs).

3. Pin5 (Vs) Open condition.

4. Pin5 (Vs) Short with Pin6 (Ref2).

5. Pin6 (Ref2) Open condition.

6. Pin6 (Ref2) Short with Pin7 (Ref1).

7. Pin7 (Ref1) Open condition.

8. Pin7 (Ref1) Short with Pin8 (OUT).

Can anyone explain what will happen when the above conditions occur?? (Effect on upper level)

(When i run simulation for the above conditon, it returns errors. Except above conditions all are running)

  • Hello Vigneshwaran,

PSpice is not suitable for determing the FMEA of an IC. While many behaviors may be modeled accurately, the failure states that can occur when pins are shorted or left open are not. PSpice will also usually not run a simulation when pins are left floating.

To determine FMEA you should use experimentation on a real device.
