INA170: Reference Voltage

Part Number: INA170

Hi Team, We would like to confirm Recommended and the Absolute Maximum Voltage Reference value for this device. Initially, he used 6V and 5V as Voltage Reference.

Hoping for your kind response.

Thanks!

Regards,

Mark

  • Hello Mark,

Thanks for reaching out on the forum.  I am checking with our design engineers.  However, I suspect the VREF absolute max is limited to the potential seen at V+, with the functional limitation being (V+)-1V.  If VIN+ and V+ are shorted together, then the Vref is functionally limited to (VIN+)-1V.  However, it would likely need to be lower if you wanted any meaningful output for any forward current measurements.

  • Hello Mark,

I spoke with design and you should not exceed V+ on Vref if you do not want to damage the device and I would make sure that Vref is <(V+)-1V if you want to keep the device in the linear operating range. As I stated before, if Vref is set to (V+)-1V you will not get any meaningful forward current measurement.  However, you will have set up the device for unidirectional measurements with reverse current where Vin+ is the load sinking side.
