OPA4322: short-circuit current of OPA4322

Part Number: OPA4322

Hi there,

I'm considering OPA4322 to boost the current drive capability as DAC I'm using can drive only  +/- 15mA and I require more than 25mA. It seems that OPA4322 can typically drive +/-65mA, is it correct? If so, can you let me know what exactly 'Short-circuit' condition here?

Many thanks!

  • Hi Minkyung,

"short-circuit current" is exactly what the phrase means: You connect the output directly to signal ground.

I think the curves in figure 14 of datasheet is what you need:

    Hello Minkyung,

Kai is correct.  To add a little more detail to his answer, the short-circuit current specification is essentially a maximum current output specification for the op amp.  However, it is only true for the conditions given in the datasheet.  For operation closer to a rail, you would need to keep in mind figure 14 of the datasheet.  Essentially, you cannot output the full 65mA and still expect to be within 10mV of VCC.
