TLV9002: How to understand the output current of TLV9002?

Part Number: TLV9002
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI

Hi team,

i may have a question about TLV9002. how should i calculate the output current of our amps?

i noted that in following picture, the output current is determined by output current and temperature. whether this output current means short current?

For example, in following circuit,  if D1 is connected to GND,  whether the output current is (V1-VF)/R7? or should only consider the output voltage?

  • Figure 12 is a headroom plot - as you ask for more current the available voltage comes away from the supply rail

    Hello Brandon,

As more current is demanded of the output, the amplifier's output cannot reach as close to the supply voltage as before.  Figure 12, often referred to as the "claw curves," show a visual representation of the TLV9002's output current capability.  In this example, the supplies are +/-2.75V.  To read this plot, look at the output current you need and match it with the appropriate output swing, for example to 750mV away from the rail.  If the point falls within the curves on the plot, then the amplifier can provide this current at this voltage swing level.

Note that the curves are typical and not absolute.  There will be deviation from device to device.  The temperature also affects the amplifier's output capabilities, as shown by the multiple curves.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

    Regards,

    Daniel

  • Hi Zhanpeng,

it's not the short-circuit current. The short-circuit current is flowing, when the output of OPAmp is directly shorted to signal ground. See also figure 33 of datasheet.

But you can easily simulate the output behaviour of TLV9002 in TINA-TI:
