LMV358: Popcone noise

Part Number: LMV358
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV9002-Q1

Hello
Our customer is facing random popcorn noise problems with LMV358Q1.
In the TEST environment 100msec duration DC step noise occurs around every 10 seconds.
The failure rate is 55 out of 281.

The Vn noise specification of the datasheet is 39nV/rtHz(typ), but popcorn noise will not be included.
What is the performance of random popcorn noise levels on LMV358Q1?
We can send detailed TEST data through e-mail communication.

Regards
Mochizuki

  • Hi Mochi,

the LMV358 is a low cost bipolar OPAmp. You should not expect all too low noise levels and the total absence of popcorn noise. Also keep in mind that in the datasheet only typical noise data is given without any maximum specs.

Improper soldering with too long periods of too high temperature could be another cause for increased popcorn noise.

Can you show some scope plots of the popcorn noise?

    Kai

  • Mochizuki-san,

Popcorn noise is primarily a bipolar process issue. Therefore I suggest TLV9002-Q1, which has a CMOS only design. Both of these devices only have typical noise specifications. However popcorn noise is not expected on TLV9002-Q1. I have no data for the rate of occurrence for popcorn noise for LMV358.
