TLV1701: Can the pull-up attached to the open-drain output pin of the TLV1701 be pulled to a higher voltage than VS?

Part Number: TLV1701

If the TLV1701 is run from 5VDC supply, can the output be pulled up to 15V supply through a 10k resistor?

Of course, when the design is updated, the device will run from a 15V supply, but this is a rework of an existing design in which the compartor is powered by a 5V supply, but needs to drive the gate of a FET to 15V rather than 5V.

Thanks in advance,
Cody

  • Hello Cody,

Yes. You can pull the output up to 36V, independent of the comparator supply voltage.

This is mentioned in the second paragraph of the front page description. Though I agree it is not well explained in the rest of the datasheet. I'll put that on the to-fix list for the next update.

  • Hi Paul,

No- you're right! That was 100% a case of the customer not thoroughly reading the front page of the data sheet before asking!  I just went straight to the AbsMax and ROC tables to look and assumed it wasn't covered. In my defense though, I probably wouldn't have trusted it only on the front page and would have asked you to verify anyway. :)

    Thanks for the help!
