OPA376-Q1: Abs-max of OUT pin voltage

Part Number: OPA376-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA376

Hi all,

I would like to know the way to think of OUT pin abs-max voltage. Does this device have ESD protection diode on not only at IN+/- but also OUT pin against V+/-? Also if there may be a voltage spike (~a few volts) at/before power up, how do you consider OUT pin voltage protection in real world? Do you have any documentation about protecting OUT pin?

I'm asking because there are no indications about abs max voltage/current of OUT pin in the datasheet.

Regards,
RYO

  • Hi RYO,

if there's actually a voltage at the output of OPA376 before power-up, you will need a protection circuit, provided the current into the output pin isn't already heavily limited by other measures. You could use such a protection circuit:

R2 is limiting the current through the clamping diodes. Choose an appropriate value. Of course, this current must be able to flow back to signal ground without making the supply voltage rise to dangerous values. So, additionally circuitry (TVS, er else) might be necessary.

R1 is limiting the current into the output pin of OPA376.

    Kai
