OPA2365: Current consume for the Amplifier

Part Number: OPA2365

Hi guys, I'm analyzing how much current the OPA2365 consume. Supposing I don´t know what is the value of the load at the output, what values should I choose from the datasheet to get an estimated consumed current value?

For example in pg 6. There appear a IQ (Quiescent Current Per Amplifier) of max 5 mA   which is the consumed with IO = 0 A. But at the other hand, I think it is needed to have into account the current provided to outputs; so in pg 5, section Output, appears a value ISC (Short Circuit Current) of max 65 mA (which is the only value I see related for current of outputs). So can I say that one amplifier of this chip would demand a current max around IQ + ISC = 5 mA + 65 mA = 70 mA?

  • Hello Jose,

I would recommend watching the following precision labs video on the power dissipation of an amplifier. This should help clarify things, also note that while the short circuit current is at 65mA the voltage will be considerably reduced as shown in figure 7 & 8.

    Best,
