LM393: Input Terminal when power OFF

Part Number: LM393

Hi staff

LM393

Input terminal when power is not supplied

1) Is it okay to input voltage to the input terminals (in+, in-) without the power supply voltage of LM393 ?
The maximum input at that time is about 5V ?.

2) Will it be destroyed ?

best regards

  • Hello Cafain,

    #1 - Yes

    #2 - No

Voltage may be applied to the LM393 family inputs, up to 36V, regardless of supply voltage.

We recommend that the current be limited to less than 1mA by a series resistor. So TI recommends a minimum of 5K resistance in series with the input. This resistance can be a discrete resistor or part of any voltage divider or input circuitry.
