Hi Team,

Our customer is looking for a 28 A to 30 A overcurrent protection device. Here are the customer requirements:

They have a system in line with a truck's 12V DC power line. The power line has a pre-built 30A fast blow fuse that has to be protected when our in-line system operates.

Their system has a motor that is being powered by the truck's line. This motor is rated for 20A at 12V DC. Since they do not have any kind of controller and this motor is a brushless magnetic motor, the current draw is typically varied. They draw anywhere between 15 and 20 amps.

Ideally, they would want to limit the current in the circuit to 28A and have a setup that can trigger an output when it sees 28A or a similar number. Since they do not have a controller board and are only reliant on simple switching logic, the customer was wondering If somehow they can integrate one of TI's solutions on the system to detect or sense the current and then trigger an output.

Most of the automotive-grade device I found has a current sense of 10 Amps only in the example application. 
We would like to ask for your assistance on the best possible current sense overcurrent protection device to offer to our customer in the above requirements.

    Thanks for reaching out on the forum.  We have several devices with Q1 versions that can detect that current level and have some sort of comparator for an alert. These devices include the INA381, INA300, INA301, INA302, INA303, and INA200-INA205.  As long as you size the shunt or sense resistor appropriately with the devices gain you should be able to tailor the device for that range.  If you are soley interested in having a trigger for overcurrent, you could just use the INA300-Q1.  However, if you find you would like to be able to monitor  what the current is, you may consider the other devices.  INA301-INA303 have the lowest gain error, and I would therefore expect those to have better accuracy at higher current levels.  If your customer is looking for a cheap solution,  they might want to consider the INA381-q1.
