INA260: LSB current

Part Number: INA260
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA169, INA219, , INA228, INA229

HI team,

Good day. Our customer has INA260 breakout board from Adafruit and they measure the current and power consumption of a motor that draws 5A. The current printed on the screen always end with .00, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75mA. What is the LSB current for the current-power sensors INA169, INA219 and INA260? How they can achieve higher resolution for these devices?

Regards,
Carlo

  • Moreover, does the  INA169 and  INA219  accept current between 0 to 5A?

  • Carlo,

The INA260 has an integrated shunt and the current resolution is 1.25mA.  So the last digits make sense since they will be multiples of the 0.25.

The INA219 LSB size for current will depend o RShunt selected and conversion time selected and PGA selected gain.  With max conversion time 10µV is the LSB size of the shunt voltage.

The INA169 is an analog out and does not have a LSB size.

INA169 is unipolar only so it can measure only currents in one direction and INA219 can measure in both directions.  You can use both to measure currents between 0 to 5 A but must select the correct Rshunt resistor.

For greater resolution you can try the INA228 and INA229 but they are currently in preview mode and can only be ordered as samples.
