XTR111: XTR111 current limiting circuit component recommendations

Hello, I am interested in using the xtr111 as a programmable current source between 0~100 uA and a Compliance voltage of ~20V. The current limiting circuit recommended in the datasheet uses large components. Since I only need small currents, could you please recommend some small footprint alternatives?

Hi,

the range 0...100µA is outside the specified output current range of XTR111. Eventually, the Howland current pump might be a better choice. What is your load?

(1) The load is skin, and the resistance usually varies from 100k ~ 300k ohms. So a compliance voltage of ~30V may be necessary. Are there any IC solutions?

(2) As an alternate potential solution, I have a iDAC with a compliance voltage of ~2V. Are there any current mirror ICs that can extend the compliance voltage to ~30V.

Hello,

Here is an example of a Howland Current Pump solution as Kai mentioned. The design is outlined in this application report.

An input of 0-5V gives you an output of 0-100uA. The input range can be modified by changing the value for R1. Is this a solution that would work for you?
