INA2290: bidirectional current measurement

Part Number: INA2290
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA240,

Hi ,

Is it possible to measure bidirectionnal current with below schematic having Rsense connected to J1/J2 to measure current from source to load and vice versa? If not do we offer another schematic proposal or an alternate device that do not need external reference like INA240?

thanks for your feedback

  • Hi Yves,

have you read section 8.3.1 of datasheet?

    Kai

  • Hello Yves,

I agree with Kai.  That section is the reason why I would not recommend this especially if operating and expecting any bandwidth and fast response for transients that cross the negative to positive transition.  From Absolute Max specifications this is possible but the recovery time form saturation may make the signal at the output not useful.

For bidirectional operation the best way is too use a reference as that will be the primary focus.

Unfortunately I think the INA240 is the one I recommend if you want high speed operation.  I assume high speed is required since you are looking at the INA2290 and the INA240.
