INA138: is it ok to use in low side sensing

Part Number: INA138
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA193

Hi Sir,

INA138 is ok to support low side sensing, is it correct?

Thank you.

  • Hi,

see the common mode input voltage range recommended in section 6.3 of datasheet :-)

    Kai

  • Dear user,

As Kai points out, for a low side application, the common mode of the inputs would sit approximately at GND, while the minimum allowable common mode for the INA138 is 2.7V:

As such, this device will not work for low side applications. Is there a reason why you are targeting the INA138? Do you have to have a current output device for this application? If not, a device with a similar structure, but predefined gain structure is the INA193 family, which you can see by the block diagram is the same architecture, but includes an integrated gain resistor and buffer in the package.
