INA220-Q1: INA220

Part Number: INA220-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA220, INA228

Hi ,TI team
The below is the input sense voltage range as in below table for INA220. For various PGA modes ( 1 to 8) as enclosed from data sheet table 7.5

We want to measure current range from 100ma to 800 A in automotive battery application.

We intend to use a 100 u ohm shunt for this application.

Kindly let me know what is the minimum voltage input this device can receive.

  • Hi Shekar,

your input voltage should at least be 100...1000 times higher than the input offset voltage of INA220 which is up to 50µV. But your minimum input voltage is only 100mA x 100µR = 10µV which is way too small.

  • Hi Shekar,

Kai is correct – the minimum voltage input this device can receive is determined by the percentage error that can be tolerated. An input voltage that is equal to Vos in magnitude will have an error that is at least 100%.

It is difficult to cover such a large current range with good accuracy. optimization/tradeoff is necessary.

You may also want to look into INA228, it is more accurate and will make your design job easier.
