LMQ61460:Operation when the input and output are short-circuited

Part Number: LMQ61460
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-050012

Hello
I want to make a circuit like TIDA-050012 using LMQ61460.
In the TIDA-050012 circuit, the input and output will be bypassed by FET.
Does the input / output short circuit adversely affect the LMQ61460?
Please tell me if it need EN control or protection elements such as diodes.

  • Hi,

I believe you are referring to the external PFET bypass path in Section 2.4.4. This condition is when you want to completely bypass the converter since there will be some losses as it is operating. By doing so the barrel jack supply will bypass the LMQ61460 and supply voltage to the PPHV pin of the PD controller.

The only thing I see that might be an issue is the maximum duty cycle operation. If you want to operate at 20Vin (barrel jack) to 20Vout for 100% duty cycle, the LMQ61460 would most likely enter dropout mode such that Vout is a diode drop from Vin.

    Regards,
