INA301: example circuit

Part Number: INA301

Hello,

My Customer is considering the INA301A3. They want to configure current limiting circuits using analog or ALERT outputs.
Is there any example circuit that can be used as a reference?
To explain a little more what they want to achieve,
they monitor the current of 0.5A, 1A, 2A, 3A (default is 2A) and limit the current,
except that there is an inrush current of 10A when the power is turned on. They want to pass this inrush current.
After this inrush current, there is a requirement to enable the current limiting circuit 200ms later.

Best regards,
DDdoor

  • Hello DDdoor,

Is your customer looking to use a single INA301 that triggers at each current level and then adjusts the trigger point, or are you looking at having 4 different INA301s, each triggering at a different current level?  If your customer is considering the first approach and wants to ignore the 10A inrush current, I think they could use an RC circuit, which shorts a limit resistor to ground that sets the trigger threshold at 5V until the gate threshold voltage is reached on the first N-channel mosfet. Then a DAC can be used to set voltages for the other trip current levels.  In my circuit below, I just used a series of switches to simulate the DAC.  The DAC out output would need to be floating for this to work during the inrush period.
