OPA2130: Thermal Information

Part Number: OPA2130
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA191, , OPA2191, OPA2197, OPA2192

Hi,

Good day.

Our customer is using the OPA2130UA/2K5 and they need the Theta JC of this device for thermal analysis. We would appreciate if you could help us provide this information. Thank you for your support

Regards,

Cedrick

  • Well Cedrick,

    it is in the datasheet,

  • sorry Cedrick, I notice now you wanted the JC not the JA. 150C/W was kind of a standard SO-8 JA number, perhaps a more recent release like the OPA191 might give you a JC number?

YEs it does, but not sure you can really use it given that much lower JA number? maybe just use the same ratio, suggesting perhaps 75C/W for JC on the OPA2130UA?

  • Hi Cedrick,

Michael has shown a thermal resistance figure in OPA2130. If you are looking for other specific thermal performance figures, please let us know.

I am asking thermal model engineer and hopefully we will get you more specific junction-to-case figure.

Our thermal model engineer indicated that "Thermal model requests can be found or submitted at the following location: Thermal Model Requests".

If you have additional questions, please let us know.

    Best,

    Raymond

  • Hello Raymond,

Good day. Thank you for your feedback.

Our customer is specifically looking for the Theta JC of OPA2130UA/2K5. We would appreciate if you could request it on behalf of us? Unfortunately, we cannot request through the link you have provided. Thank you for your support.

    Regards,

    Cedrick

  • Hi Cedrick,

I requested the thermal Theta JC of OPA2130UA/2K5 figure via the site mentioned above. Unfortunately, it is said that the process may take up to two weeks. I put down 1 week and hopefully a model engineer is able to provide us with the figure sooner.

The current SOIC-8 package of Theta JC is modeled approx. 53.9C/W, which the comparable parts are OPA2191, OPA2192, OPA2197 as Michael indicated. Since this part is designed in 1998, the figure may be slightly different from the current nominal.

Anyway, I will post the Theta JC of OPA2130UA/2K5 result after I received the reply from thermal model engineer.

    Best,

    Raymond

  • Hello Raymond,

    Good day.

We would like to know if there's an update on this request. We appreciate your help on this. Thanks.

    Regards,

    Cedrick

  • Hi Cedrick,

I will pin the thermal model engineer tomorrow and let you know.

    Raymond

  • Hi Cedrick,

Please see the Theta JC of OPA2130UA/2K5 result below.

This is the latest thermal model simulation based on the previous model which was dated back in 1998. Theta JA figure does not match the published data in the OPA2130UA's datasheet. I was told that this is not surprising, since older datasheets used different methodologies and standards to define those R-Theta-JA values than what is used today.

If you have additional questions, please let us know.

    Best,

    Raymond
