XTR115: Temperature range

Genius 15750 points
Part Number: XTR115

Hello,

XTR115 datasheet specifies its temperature range like the below.

Are these all temperature range for "Specification", "Operating" and "Storage" ambient temperature, Ta?

Regards,
Oba

  • Hi Oba,

the maximum current into the XTR115 when using the recommended external transistor (!) and sinking 3.5mA out of the Vreg and Vref pins might be about 4mA. 4mA times 24V gives about 100mW heat dissipation within the XTR115 and the chip will heat up by 150K/W x 100mW = 15K above the ambient temperature. So this wouldn't mean much difference between the ambient temperature and chip temperature anyway.

  • HI Oba,

The device specifications table are for ambient temperature TA=25C, and the performance drift vs temperature is specified for ambient temperature in the range of TA= -40C to +85C as shown on the datasheet.   The device can operate with an ambient temperature range of -55C to +125C, but the performance is not specified in this range. The storage temperature range is the the temperature range that the part can be stored without power applied.

The XTR115 is a 2-wire, 4-mA to 20-mA current transmitter, where the external transistor Q1 conducts the majority of the full-scale output current, and low current (less than <4mA) will flow through the XTR115 on the normal application. Therefore, there is little heating expected on the device.

    Thank you and Regards,

    Luis
