TPA3116D2 permanently in fault state

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA3116D2

Hi everyone!

I am having difficulties using the TPA3116D2 audio amplifier. I am using the amplifier in PBTL mode with a single ended input. When I power the device up, nothing happens and the FAULTZ pin has GND potential. I have tried different scenarios with input signals, without them. With a load and without it, no difference. I have attached the schematic of the circuit. I hope you can help me finding the bug. I don't really know where to start looking.

Thanks. And merry christmas!

Sven

  • Hi, Sven,

It sounds like the over-current protection is tripping. The two most common causes for this are problems with the output filter, or power supply decoupling.

Try removing L3 and L4 to see if the part starts up.

If that doesn't fix it, then make sure C15-18 are close to the IC. Check out the EVM layout for a recommended layout.
