DIT4192: Behaivor for Input Data including Error

Part Number: DIT4192

Hi,

Can DIT4192 output the AES3 encoded data with the hardware mode even if an error is included in the channel status data(C), the user data(U) and the validity flag(V) of the AES3 format ?

Best regards,
Kato

  • Hi, Kato-san,

I think this device should be able to stream the encoded data even if an error is included; but the defective  data should not be used as the datasheet recommends. My colleague in charge of this device is out of the office on Thanksgiving holiday, but he should be able to provide more information early next week.

    We appreciate your comprehension.

  • Hi Diego-san,

Thank you for your prompt reply.
I am looking forward to hearing more detailed information from your colleague.

    Best regards,
    Kato

  • Hi Diego-san,

Sorry for rushing you, but please let me know if you have any updates.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Diego-san,

Do you have any updates ?
Please let me know as I quickly need to respond for our customer on this.

  • Dear Kato-san,
Sorry for the delayed response as I was out-of-office for more than a week for Thanksgiving break.

DIT4192 has AES-3 encoder which performs the multiplexing of audio, channel status, user and validity data, in addition to performing Bi-phase Mark encoding of multiplexed data stream.

In Hardware mode, the channel status data input is accomplished by state of the CSS input (Pin 1). The User data input (pin 27) allows for convenient way to transfer user-defined or application specific data to another device containing an AES-3 Receiver. And Validity data input (pin 26) indicates that audio data is valid or defective.

NOTE that DIT4192 will stream the output irrespective of what the value of V, U and channel status bits are and the decision to mute the output is implemented downstream when a device w. AES-3 receiver processes the output of the DIT4192.

Also, note that the AUDIO (pin 22) is used to indicate non-audio or encoded audio data which will also be streamed at the output. Hope this clarifies your question. Thanks.

    Best regards,
    Ravi
  • Hi Ravi-san,

    Thank you for your explanation.

Is my understanding correct that DIT4192 can output the AES3 encoded audio data with an error even if the input data for DIT4192 includes an error since the receiving device can perform the error detection ?

    Best regards,
    Kato

  • Hi Kato-san,
your understanding is correct about DIT4192 wrt output of the AES3 encoded data being streamed as is as it just transmits the S/PDIF data stream based on the input values presented to it and it's usually the downstream device w. AES3 Receiver (DIR) that performs the error detection. Of course, there are devices that can have DIT and DIR blocks integrated on same silicon in which case, the DIR block handles the error detection.

    Thanks & Best regards,
    Ravi
  • Hi Ravi-san,

Thank you for your continuous support.

I understood and can confidently propose DIT4192 to our customer.
