TPA2011D1: Range of THD+N

Part Number: TPA2011D1

Hi folks,

Customers measure THD+N but they are not sure the value is reasonable or not.

Below is what they measured:

SPEC: VDD = 5V, THD = 1%, Po = 1.46W, Vrms = 3.41V

Result: Vrms = 3.41V, THD = 1.72%

SPEC: VDD = 5V, THD = 10%, Po = 1.8W, Vrms = 3.79V

Result: Vrms = 3.79V, THD = 11.53%

Do you think this result is normal?

Thank you.

Regards,

Will

  • Hi Will,

when having a look at figure 13 of datasheet you will notice, that there is a steep edge from 1W on, where the distortion sharply rises. This is the moment when the output begins to clip. You see that the points with 1% and 1,72% and 10% and 11.53%, respectively, lie very close togther on the curve. So, what you see are usual production tolerances.

  • Hi Will,

I suppose that you are using 8 ohms, If so, this variation happens due components tolerance. For instance, Is the load value exact? perhaps the value is 8.2 ohms and this would change the measurement. I think so is normal.
