TAS5424B-Q1: Compatibility with TAS5424A

Part Number: TAS5424B-Q1

Hi,

We have been using the TAS5424A for many years in a design without any issues.  I recently decided to try installing the TAS5424B in its place because we may need to raise the supply voltage to 24V.  The B version would not allow my system to get through the initialization process.

Is there any differences in these 2 amplifiers that would affect the startup.  Specifically is there anything relating to the I2C command behavior?

Thanks

  • Hi Steve,
There should not be any changes needed for the registers. the clearing of faults needs to be performed after any reset. You may need to see if you have an undervoltage fault after a reset or power on. These must be cleared.
  • Greg,

Thanks for the response.  I finally got to the bottom of it.

Indeed the registers have been re-arranged somewhat on the B version,  specifically the DC detect functions, over current, over temp.  Reg  address 0x0E and 0x0F are now not used and stuff is re-mapped.

I also discovered a bug in my I2C driver that was apparently ignored on the TAS5424A.  I wasn't sending the correct ACK bit on a register read.  The A chip didn't care.  The B chip must have fixed this and behaved properly therefore exposing the bug in my driver.
