TPA3221: Ground Fault Test

Part Number: TPA3221

Hi,

Could you please provide the result for the ground fault test with the BTL and PBTL mode ?
In addition, TPA3221 was damaged if shorting OUT1_P to ground when testing the ground fault in the following configuration(the BTL configuration) using TPA3221EVM with the PBTL mode, so could you please tell me that reason why TPA3221 is damaged in this case ?

Best regards,
Kato

  • Kato-San,

I think you are saying the Device was configured as PBTL mode (inputs IN2P and IN2M grounded) and the outputs were configured for BTL. Is this correct?

If this is correct, we do not support this mode and we would not test for this mode as it's completely incorrect.

We fully tested short to GND testing in all valid functional modes and the part behaved as we expect.

Has the customer tried this test with the device and output in the correct modes? (BTL configuration with BTL output for example).

    Regards,

    -Adam
  • Hi Adam-san,

    Thank you for your response.

Yes, TPA3221 was configured as PBTL mode and the outputs were configured as BTL mode, then the ground fault test was carried out.
Our customer also understand that it is differ from normal usage, but please tell me why the ground short cannot be detected.
In other words, please tell me how to detect the ground fault in PBTL mode.
Of course, this device worked normally before the ground fault test.

    Best regards,
    Kato

  • Kato-San,

We only support valid configurations such as when the output configuration matches the input configuration. I cannot comment on how to use the part in the invalid mode you are requesting.

  • Hi Adam-san,

    Thank you for the comment.

I cannot verify this symptom as I don't have TPA3221EVM, so could you please double-check whether this symptom is replicated by using the EVM ?

    Best regards,
    Kato

  • Kato-San,

I cannot test the EVM in an unsupported configuration.

  • Hi Adam-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

    I understood.
