INA220: INA220 EVM DIG USB communication problem

Part Number: INA220

Hi Team

I'm facing a USB communication problem shows below on customer side. I can find USB device on computer and have 3 LED turned on but connect DIG board. Another thing I found is that I can connect the board on my computer but my costomer can't. We tried serveral computers and reinstalled the software but the issue still there. I also tried other solutions mentioned in other blogs in this forum.

Do you have any suggestion for me to fix this issue.

Thanks,

Tiger Tang

  • Hey Tiger,

Have you tried right-clicking the INA220 software and choosing the "Run as Administrator" option? What are the operating systems you are using?

    Tiger,

The user manual also says this:

Figure 11 shows an error that pops up if the computer cannot communicate with the EVM. If you receive
this error, first check to see that the USB cable is properly connected. This error can also occur if you
connect the USB cable before the USB DIG Platform 9V power source. A second possible reason for this
problem is that there may be a problem with your computer USB Human Interface Device Driver. Make
sure that when you plug the in the USB cable, the computer recognizes the device. If the sound is on, you
will hear the distinctive sound that you expect when a USB device is properly connected to the PC.

This was developed on an earlier windows OS, and while we haven't heard of any compatibility problems (it uses the same HID driver as keyboards and mice), perhaps you are seeing something like that happening.  I personally haven't tried the EVM on anything over windows 7.

    Hi Jason

         Thanks for reply.

I can find the USB device and HID on devce manager from computer control panel. And customer's operation system is Windows 7.

But still can't connect the DIG through software, and once I change to connect my own computer(windows 10), run software as administrator both software and board work well.

    Hi Peter
Yes, I tried "Run as administrator" and it's windows 7. But it still doesn't work. Do you have any other suggestions?
    Thanks

    Tiger,

Please clarify this one more time. Customer cannot use the USB DIG board on their Windows 7 computer, but you CAN use the USB DIG board on your own Windows 10 computer? Is the customer running the applications "As and Administratory"? What is the revision of the USB DIG board? Are you powering the INA220 with an external power suppply or are you using the computer's 5V supply? Could you send a picture of the USB DIG board so I can see what connections are chosen?

Have you tried using the SM-USB-DIG? It is the smaller version of the large USB DIG pcb?
