INA219: low temperature operation

Part Number: INA219

I have an application which requires after startup the system to be brought down to -55C ambient temperature.  Are there expected failure modes in this operating condition? I understand characterization of performance will need to be evaluated as we would be operating outside of specified rated temperature.  Prior to moving forward with the preliminary design I would like to confirm if there are any known issues with low temperature operation that would possibly cause the device to not only stray far from specified performance during normal conditions but to cease functioning or some other failure that would cause no useful feedback to my system to occur.

Thanks,

Justin Samstag

  • Hi Justin,

have you thought of condensation water due to air humidity? And that the condensation water can freeze on the PCB?

    Kai

  • Hello Justin,

Thank you for considering to use Texas Instruments in your design. We suspect that the part will continue to work at that temperature. However, that is outside of our specs and thus we presently cannot say that the device will definitely work. At present, I am not aware of any failure modes. I will need to confirm with our test engineers to see how far below -25C they have tested.

  • Hello Justin,

I spoke with one of our test engineer's about this part. He said that we did do some tests with the part below -55C and he is not aware of any specific problems. However, Texas Instruments still will only guarantee proper device operation within the specifications posted on the datasheet.
