Low power latched comparators

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMV7291

Hello,

I'm working on a mixed signal application where low power consumption is crucial. A significant portion of the power consumption is now taken by a comparator in the circuit (LMV7291), even though this is a micro power comparator.

The comparator needs to sample its input signal at discrete time instants so I'm using a clocked flipflop to latch it's output result at those instants.

In modern ADC's and sigma-delta converters so called latched comparators are used which provide a much better trade off between speed and power consumption.

I was wondering why this type of comparator is not available as a seperate product either from TI or any other manufacturer. Are such comparators included in any product roadmaps for the near future or should I just settle for conventional open loop comparators for now?

Thank you,

Paul
