Hi Team,

my customer would like to use TPS2546 switch for the USB port charging. (5V/3A)

If the system need to detect the charging current and the SOC has the ADC, did we have simple OP current detection function circuit?

    Hello Scott,

    It is likely that the customer can simply use an op amp (I assume that's what you mean by "OP"), but first I would like some additional information:

    1) What power supplies are available for the sensing circuitry?
    2) Does the customer care if the shunt is placed on the low or high-side? I ask because it is generally much easier to sense on the low-side because the common-mode voltage is near ground.
    3) Concerning the ADC, what is its input voltage range (or reference voltage)? Put another way, what voltage range corresponds to the current range (~0A-3A).
    4) Just to confirm, the current is uni-directional, right?

    In the meantime, here are a few TI Precision Designs that may be of interest:

    TIPD104 (can be simplified for this application)
    TIPD129
    TIPD156 & TIPD175 (but these are bi-directional)
