THS4131: THS4131 vs OPA1632

Part Number: THS4131
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA1632

Hello

What is difference between THS4131 and OPA1632?

I study both datasheets and can`t find differences.

Production control? THS4131 selected OPA1632?

Victor

  • Hello Victor,

The THS4131 is a general purpose amplifier. The OPA1632 was released for audio use.

  • Hi

So I can`t use OPA1632 for general purposes and THS4131 for audio? ;)

Or label "for audio" simply means more $ for the same silicon?

    What about really technical details?

What difference between OPA1632 and THS4131 related to audio?

  • Victor,
Usually the production test programs that test dc precision specifications for a general purpose amplifier are more stringent vs the audio, since audio doesn't typically care about dc precision. Also designers sometime play with the internal compensation of the amplifier for general purpose vs audio. If you are comfortable with all the audio specs of the THS4131 you could certainly use it for audio. You will find that the audio part in this case is quite a bit cheaper than the general purpose part, since the testing is not as extensive.

One difference between the two amplifiers with regards to the datasheet is the THD specification. General purpose amplifiers usually talk about HD or THD performance while audio amplifiers use THD+N.
