DRV411: Looking for feasible sensors for this IC

Part Number: DRV411
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIPD180,

Hi all,

In the application note related to this part (TIPD180) Tom suggests the use of Topstek's TQPL50A passive closed-loop symmetric hall effect current sensor.
The aforementioned sensor doesn't seem to be an easy part to get ahold of, moreover there doesn't seem to be a similar symmetric sensor in the manufacturer's product range. To be honest, I'm struggling to find any such sensors at all out there.

Could anyone point me in the right direction as to which commercially available sensors could work well with the DRV411 chip?

Many thanks in advance and kind regards,

JP

  • Hi Juan,

Thank you for posting in the E2E Forums.
Good question regarding the TQPL50A. I can't find the part either but I got in touch with the team that released this design and hopefully will hear from them in a few days. Perhaps they can either provide additional info or a functionality equivalent part.

Please bare with me for a few days. Ill update the thread once I have some news.
  • Hello Juan,

The Topstek device TQPL50A was never released.  There is currently no complete sensor available that I know of.

You would need to use a hall sensor like the HW-322B along with a magnetic core to concentrate and force the flux through the hall sensor.  I am sorry to say I have not been able to find a magnetic core off the shelf.  You would need to work with a magnetic core manufacture to get this done.

    Regards,

    Javier

  • Hi Javier,

Many thanks for the prompt response.
I was hoping I'd be able to avoid having to go the bespoke sensor way but no worries, I'll see what's available.
There's another thread in which someone claims to have been using the IC for a long time, it would be interesting to know which sensor they have been using. Just a thought.

    Kind regards,

    JP

  • Hello Juan,

If you would like you can contact the author of that thread directly to see if they can give you any information on that.
