OPA547: Output stage compensation

Part Number: OPA547
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI

I have a design that drives an inductive load, but the data sheet doesn't give any guidance beyond using 3 ohm with .01 uF and "Some variations in circuit values may be required with certain loads". Is any better  advice available?

  • Hi Jerold,

you can simulate your OPA547 application with TINA-TI and run a step response and phase stability analysis.

  • Hi Jerold,

Regarding the series RC network connected from the OPA547 output to ground have a look at this Wikipedia link:

    en.wikipedia.org/.../Zobel_network

See the information under the "Zobel Networks and Loudspeaker Drivers." The loudspeaker is modeled as a series RL circuit. In your application's case the load could be a loudspeaker, actuator, motor, etc., or other device that can be modeled as a series RL circuit.

The Wikipedia information explains what the Zobel Network RC does when applied in conjunction with the load RL device. It should help you better determine more appropriate RC values.
