TLV1701: TLV1701 Mis-wiring protection circuit

Part Number: TLV1701
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV1805-Q1, TLV1805

Hi team,

I have a question of TLV1701.

My customer is considering the mis-wiring protection circuit such as TLV1805-Q1 EVM.

They plan to design by using p-ch FET circuit like below.

Is there any concern that the customer have to consider to use TLV1701 instead of TLV1805-Q1?

Please let me know if you have any other device that the customer have to use.

Regards,

Yoshi

  • Hello Masayoshi,

The TLV1701 could be used, but it would require the use of a low value pull-up resistor since the TLV1701 is not a push-pull output. The low-to-high output (turn-off) transition time would be dependent on the time constant of the pull-up resistor and the gate capacitance.

The TLV1805 has a push-pull (sink & source) output that is is specifically designed to drive the gates of MOSFETS with peak currents up to 90 mA.

The faster the gate is transitioned, the faster the load is disconnected or connected.

Is there a specific reason they cannot use the TLV1805-Q1? The commercial version, the TLV1805 is already released.

  • Hi Paul,
Thanks for your quick answer. Now I've understood.

One of the reason why the customer can't use TLV1805-Q1 is they don't need SHDN pin. If you need additional information, I'll discuss through the e-mail directly.

Do you have any other push-pull comparator? (Abs max is 36V is prefer for my customer)

    Regards,
    Yoshi
  • Hello Yoshi,

If the shutdown function is not needed, then the SD pin can be tied to V- for always-on operation.

The reverse current circuit shown will need a Rail-to-Rail input due to the high side monitoring. The TLV1805 is the only 40V R-R input and output comparator. It was specifically designed for this application.

Please email me internally if you wish discuss further.
